Kabinett is located in Iteawon. If you go out the walk out gate by the gas station, you are going to be walking quite far. It is doable, but if your girl is wearing heals you should really splurge for a cab. Kabinett is on the left side of the street if you are coming from post, just past the Iteawon Hotel on the 2nd floor.
I have been to Kabinett several times, but this is my first time to write about it. Kabinett is turning out to be one of my favorite places to go to have a nice glass of wine and hang out with Hubby. They have an extensive wine list, with wines prices up to 16,000,000 WON! Even though I would like to try a wine with that price tag, I would never order it; let’s face it, for a bottle of wine that expensive, I would be doing dishes at this restaurant for the rest of my life. We typically stick to the house wine, as Kabinett does not have a bad wine in the building (that I have tasted anyway). My favorite thing to order here is the cheese fondue, but be careful, it is hot and I did burn myself the first time we ordered it. (I’m so graceful!) Kabinett has such cozy seating and the music is very romantic. This is a perfect place for a date night.

Boy 3 has had 4 birthdays, 3 of them have been Thomas the Train. This boy gets more and more "Thomas crazed" each year. This year when asking him what he wanted for his birthday he was very specific, "only choo-choo trains, I need (yes he said need) Diesel & the roundhouse". This year I let Boy 3 pick the menu for his party, while at the commissary shopping he wanted me to take a picture of him in the 'soda' aisle, no, he didn't get soda for his party (I know, mean mom) but at least he got his picture with it, and isn't his little shopping cart cute? Boy's 2 & 3 waiting impatiently for guest to arrive.... The food Boy 3 picked out for his party.... (healthy, I know) Party fun! Piñata’s are nearly impossible to find on the economy here in Korea, in fact I have NEVER seen one on the economy & I have looked. The only place I have found them is at the PX (Post Exchange for you non-military types). I tried to order a Thomas piñata from several website, none of which would ship to me. So instead I bought a totem pole piñata, and then Hubby dressed it up as Percy. I must admit, he did a fabulous job! One day before Boy 3's birthday party I was talking to Hubby and told him I thought I would just buy the cake for Boy 3's party because I was running low on time. Boy 3 overheard this, looked at me with those big blue eyes, stuck out his bottom lip and said "No Mommy, you have to make my cake". Needless to say, I made his birthday cake.
One day while out and about I happened upon this sign while looking for a restroom.... It cracked me up, so I had to share!
So from what I hear, Boy 3's commercial is airing. I have yet to see it - AUGHHH!!! I've been trying to "Google" it, but no luck so far. When I find it I will post it for you guys. I have also heard he is at all the bus stops & at E-Mart. I really need to venture out this weekend and find him.
Boy 2 worked for our favorite company Commencer again......he is so cute!! You all know how much I love Korea, but if there is one thing lacking here, it is Mexican food. Many months ago Hubby and I noticed this Mexican restaurant in Iteawon. This past weekend we decided to give it a try. It can’t be all bad when the sign reads 'World Famous Margaritas'! Personally I would not call the margarita's 'world famous', but they were not terrible either. However next time I visit Pancho's, I will order a Corona, or a mojito, Hubby's mojito was very good! First off we ordered chips and salsa, I like many of you other judge a Mexican restaurant on the quality of thier chips and salsa. These were not bad, but they did not make me want to order a full meal either. Hubby and I decided to order 2 tacos, at a heafty price of 12,000 won! Check out what we got.... (Notice LaTravola, one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the background of the picture above?) Check out the 'salad' mix on our tacos. Nice. Hubby said these tacos were a little better than Taco Bell, I had to disagree with him, especially for the price next time I will opt to go to Taco Bell! (Yes we have a Taco Bell here.)
All in all, Pancho's wasn't that bad. Hubby and I both agreed that if we had a hankering for Mexican beer, chips and salsa, this would be the place to come! What is a pluot you ask? Only the new love of my life. I saw these little beauties at the commissary a few weeks ago and a lady working there told me I should try them. She said they were very delicious, and sweet, and they sell out within hours of putting them on the shelf. That was it, I was sold. If you tell me everyone else wants one, I'm in! I mean, I don't want to feel left out or be the only one on this post that has never tried a pluot.
Oh baby I was not disappointed. This is a new favorite fruit in our house. Boy 2 says it taste like a big cherry! It is actually a cross between a plum and an apricot. The only downfall is we can't get them very often. I hope they are more readily available when we move back to the states. Hubby and I enjoy reading the magazine "10". This magazine is geared towards expats living in Seoul and is written in English. Many of the things we have experienced here are ideas sparked from this magazine. For example, the September issue of "10 Magazine" has an article titled "A Hiker's Heaven" and it list the top 10 mountains to hike in and around Seoul. We have decided to do them all over the next 10 weeks as a family. We started with Namsan, then this past week we hiked Gwanaksan. I chose Gwanaksan because the article said, and I quote "These hikes (refering to Gwanaksan) are popular amongst visitors of all ages". Since the kids have only hiked one mountain (if you can call Namsan a mountain) I wanted to start with one of the easier mountains. HA! Thank goodness my kids are tough, because for kids 4,6 & 7 years old, this mountain was hard! I mean check out the 13 year old, he was even having a hard time and had to hang onto the ropes! OK, OK, that picture was posed, it really wasn't that difficult for him, AND he ran a 5K before hiking the mountain. But seriously, I doubt a 70 year old could hike this mountain unless they were in really great shape. To get to Gwanaksan, take subway line #4 to Gwacheon Station, exit subway exit 7, walk straight up the path. Here are a few pictures for you. When the path ends, turn right. This is what you will see. See that white car on the left? This is where you go, turn in left - you will be right across the street from a Presbyterian church. Look for these steps..... This is the begining of your hike. And here we go..... Heading down was a little scary with all these little people, but it turn out great! Boy 2 taking a break.... I am enjoying hiking with the kids much more than I thought I would. They are amazing, and don't really complain at all. Girl has even ask for her own *pink* camelback for her birthday!
This next picture is from a little game we played on the hike, we all had to find something 'really cool' that would fit in our pocket and when we got to the bottom we would vote on the 'coolest' item. We voted, now you vote, tell us which item you think is the 'coolest'! 1-green leaf 2-white rock 3-spiky flower looking thing 4-brown rock 5-brown/white rock 6-purple flower "I'm 4 today, but in Korean I'm 5"! Those were the first words out of his mouth yesterday morning while he was having his GIANT chocolate chip cookie for breakfast. Why do they want to grow up so fast? Boy 3 had a great birthday. Birthday traditions in our house are a little different than most. On your birthday you get whatever you want for breakfast, AND you get to do whatever you want all day long while the others (me) wait on you hand and foot. You can't imagine the things I have served up in this house on birthday mornings.
Boy 3 decided he wanted a "PJ day". You see, he opened his gifts first thing and couldn't bear to do anything other than play with his new 'roundhouse'. Even when I ask if he would like us (his dad had the day off from work) to take him to Burger King for lunch his reply was "no, I want you (mom) to go pick it up and bring it to me". Happy Birthday little man! I can't believe you are already 4! (5 in Korean) The kids had a great first week of school! Here they are on their first day of the new school year, last Monday, 31 August.
Who would have guessed that Koreans love fried chicken & beer (actually soju)? Not me. But after seeing the many, many chicken and beer joints around the area, Hubby and I decided to go to one of these chicken and beer places and bring the camera along for the ride. (OK, so I have been to one chicken and beer place here which was fabulous, I thought I would recognize the sign when I saw it, but apparently I was wrong.) This is the chain we went to.... If you live in Seoul, you will see TwoowT's fried chicken joints all over town, but I really don't know why. Maybe you have to order beer with it to make it better, I opted for a Sprite, and maybe that was my problem. This is the yummy appetizer we got....(free of charge I might add - thank goodness!) Don't get me wrong, this wasn't horrible; in fact the plain fried chicken was good enough, just a bit on the greasy side - and to give credit where credit is due, fried chicken is supposed to be greasy. Now the 'garlic' fried chicken we ordered, well, that was a different story, after one bite of that I needed a swig of soju, and I love garlic. Hubby enjoyed the garlic chicken, but after a few bites I couldn’t kiss him for the rest of the night. TwoowT's, I'm sorry but we will not be visiting you again....
