Army VS. Navy, The Yongsan Way!

The Army-Navy game is an annual college football game between the teams of the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, New York and the United States Naval Academy (USNA) at Annapolis, Maryland.

SIDE NOTE: It is because of this game back in 1991 that I met my husband in 1992.  You see, he was late to this game, and for a cadet at USMA, this is a big no-no.  Hubby was stuck at school 'walking the area' instead of away doing more fun things (like visiting his previous girlfriend).  The day he walked his last hour was the day we met at Michaels Tavern in Terrytown, NY.

Back to the topic at hand....Army-Navy football. The USMA team "Army" and the USNA team, "Navy" each represent their services' oldest officer commissioning sources.  As such the game has come to embody the spirit of the interservice rivalry of the United States Armed Forces.  It is one of the most enduring rivalries in college football.

That rivalry is not only between service members, but their wives as well.....

In case you are not aware of this little fact, Yongsan is a joint military post.  This means the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines all reside together on this little instillation.  When Army - Navy football time rolls around Army & Navy create football teams of soldiers from here on post (yes post, not base). You see them practicing each day and night on the fields around post gearing up for the big game.  Several of the (old) Navy wives get together to create a cheer team.  The Army gets to use the varsity cheer team from the high school since we own this post.

As in true Army form, the Army spanked the Navy with a victorious score of 46-12!  (We won't talk about the score of the college game here...that is for the next blog.)

So I have to give it up, I love all the Navy cheerleaders.  They were wonderful,  had great spirit and yes, I call many of them friends.

Proud Army wife and mother to 4 wonderful children.  I love to cook, travel, work out and scrapbook life’s adventures when I find the time.  We just got orders & are heading back to the states in March 2010.  I'm bummed that our time has been cut short, but proud of Hubby for the reason why.
