First Day of School

First let me start off by saying sorry it has been so long since I updated my blog, I have been busy getting ready for the first day of school and my Mother-In-Law's visit.

So, yesterday was the first day of school for Boy 1...........

and for Girl..........

Boy 2 does not start full day KINDERGARTEN till 2 September.  Boy 3 will start preschool mid September, he will go 2 days a week, just for a few hours, more on Boy's 2 & 3 later.

Boy 1 started 7th grade!!  I cannot believe I have a 7th grader.  I met a couple of my faithful readers when I was in 7th grade, Jana and Randy.  Can you girls believe it has been that long?  Wow,  I have a 7th grader, who is 5 feet, 4 inches tall.  Just one more inch and he will be as tall as I am.  Oh, and get this, he is wearing a size 10 in MENS shoes and isn’t he the most handsome 7th grader in history?  All the girls here at the Seoul American Middle School think so.  J  He has a pretty good schedule this year; he is taking Hongul (Korean), video production and all the other classes a 7th grader should take.

As for my beautiful Girl, she started 1st grade.  She is very fortunate to have one of her very good friends in class with her & she is very excited about the fact that in 1st grade you get to pick your seat.  She sat by her good friend, pictured below.

A note on the door going into first grade, I found this humorous.

After school we enjoyed a little ice-cream.  Boy 1 was not with us, he was on the way to the airport to pick up his Grammy.

Jana - Oh honey, if I am old enough to have a 7th grader, so are you!! I am only 2 months older than you. You just started having babies when you were an old lady. :)

Staci - the first day of school is a beautiful thing, but I've been so busy it hasn't really hit yet, plus Boy 2 hasn't started yet...talk to me in a few more weeks when things have calmed down. Girl LOVES her dresses you sent...THANK YOU! Boy 1 will be towering over you by Christmas!

Molly and Tara - Thanks for the nice comments. Girl's hair is finally getting to the point where it isn't quite so baby fine anymore. I think Boy 1 needs a hair cut, but as long as he keeps it out of his eyes I am good with it.

OMG! I can't believe how grown-up they all look! Especially Boy #1. SO handsome! He looks exactly like you from the nose up and exactly like your Hubby from the nose down - especially the little smirk! TOO cute!

I can't believe how big our kids are. If I weren't too busy celebrating the first day of school(WHOO HOO! I'm free until 3:30! Hubby's out of town, too, so I might just take a nap and go see a chick flick!), I would probably be crying over the fact that I have TWO in middle school this year - they're not babies anymore!

Btw, my kids are HOOKED on those ice pop thingies. I found more at the Oriental supermarket here. It's a good thing that you can't read the label on the Korean ones. The ones that I found here actually have an English nutritional info chart. Trust me...you just DON'T want to know... ;-)

That is too funny, because I have often wondered. In fact every time I buy something here I wonder about the nutritional info, especially when I buy these little "yogurt vitamin" drinks. Everyone tells me they are good for you, but no one will read the label to me. Makes you wonder. I will have to send a picture to you & you can see if they have them at the Oriental supermarket.

I'm glad they liked their treats! How were the grape drinks? Everyone eiter loves or hates them.

Well, the first ingredient on the label of the popsicles is "high fructose corn syrup", but my kids love 'em and I figure it's a once-in-a-great-while treat. I mean, really, how often are they gonna get a box of Korean popsicles in mail? ;-)

They liked the grape drinks. Hubby and I haven't tried 'em yet, but we still have 2 left. They thought they were "unusual" (that's what Boy said), but they thought that the grapes in them were cool. They liked the little round cookies and the little individually-wrapped strawberry jam filled chocolate-covered cookies. The chocolate-covered sticks were yummy, too. There is a similar (Chinese? Japanese? I don't know...) treat that is readily available in Austin called "Pocky" that we like a lot and the little sticks are a lot like that, so already a hit with us. The only thing that we DID NOT like was the individually wrapped candies (they were in a red package). When we first opened the box, I let everyone pick something that they wanted to try (kids picked cookies, Hubby picked the sort of chocolate-filled wafer things - YUM!) and then I tried one of the candies. Hubby (munching his wafers) asked, "What flavor is it?" I said, "I don't know....tobacco, maybe?" Seriously, I couldn't figure out WHAT flavor it was. It was either the flavor of some funky tea or it was tobacco. I swear, I thought I was eating cigarette-flavored candy. Eww... I must confess that I was not woman enough to finish the candy and I had to spit it out. That was the only thing that we haven't liked so far, though - we still haven't opened the bags of chip-looking things.

Sorry to leave such a long comment, but it was really FUN trying all of the different, cool stuff. You know we really trust you if we're opening bags of all kinds of stuff that we can't read and just digging into it. ;-) Have you gotten another box from us yet? It's nothing big, just a couple of tiny things...

Oh, and didn't your Girl have a very similar dress last year (Easter?), but with circles instead of hearts? It looks VERY familiar.

Oh my goodness...no wonder my kids like them so much! You just shattered my dream; I thought the Korean popsicles were much better for you than the American.

I am glad you guys are enjoying your treats, most of them anyway. I must agree with you on the candy wrapped in red, it is Red Ginseng. I spit mine out almost as fast as I put it in, so don't feel bad. Red Ginseng and Korea go together like peanut butter goes with jelly. Korean's love it and it is a very high status gift to give.
They have Red Ginseng EVERYTHING here. There is even a Red Ginseng festival.

Yes, Girl had a very similar dress for Easter & she liked it so much she is not allowing me to give it to anyone. It is sitting in the top of her closet waiting for her to shrink so she can wear it again. So when Staci was out shopping and found this dress she email a picture to us, Girl gave it the thumbs up so Staci picked it up for her. It is her favorite dress again (just like the other one) and wants to wear it ALL the time.

We just got the package you sent yesterday. Thank you for the book & we now have sunflower seeds coming out our ears. :) It is very cool the come shelled now. We will be taking a package with us to Yeoju today.

Proud Army wife and mother to 4 wonderful children.  I love to cook, travel, work out and scrapbook life’s adventures when I find the time.  We just got orders & are heading back to the states in March 2010.  I'm bummed that our time has been cut short, but proud of Hubby for the reason why.
