When I was about to move to Korea I though I would hate it here I would be leavening all my friends from Copperas Cove. BUT I love it here it’s probably the best place I’ve lived. I have probably made more friends here then my whole life.
The number one thing I like in Korea is all of the new freedom I get. Like I get to go to the movies like 3 times a week with my friends, go to the pool a lot, or just hang around post.
My number two thing I like in Korea is going off base to shop you can buy a jersey for like 10000-20000won (10-20$) you can buy movies on the street for like 4 for 10$ and the food is really weird but good.

We should have listened to our first instinct. Leave, head for the door, do not stop - run. We didn’t listen, we stayed and ordered Sushi. Why, we don’t know, but we did it anyway. The 1st clue was the picture above, the 2nd, you didn’t get to pick your sushi, and they only serve a “combination” platter. I guess the “good” in it is that we did have “serve yourself free soda refills”, that is something, right? Anyway back to the sushi, we got the 10 combo piece and a combo roll. Well, upon my first bite, yes, I still took a bite, I noticed the salmon was warm, I then noticed the fire starting in my mouth. They must have put a HUGE ball of wasabi under that warm piece of sushi. Thank goodness for the free soda refills. Next we checked out the sushi roll. Are you ready for this…you are going to crack up, the inside of the roll looked normal, however on the top of the roll, they had, get this……a slice of American cheese, some pasta sauce (from the jar I am sure) and parmesan cheese. It was Italian style. We left. This recipe is adapted from one of my favorite cook books, Good Friends Great Taste, A Celebration of Life, Food and Friendship which I could not find a link to. I got this cookbook at one of my favorite little stores in Atchison, Kansas, www.nellhills.com . If my friend Lara at www.feedyourkids.com were to write I cookbook, this is the type of cookbook I would expect from her. You can buy the book on Amazon, and no, I am not getting paid by any of these companies/people mentioned above. Chicken I thought this recipe deserved a blog of its own. Last year at my friends 4th of July party we were invaded by these pesky little insects, then this year, in keeping with tradition, they decided to attend my 4th of July party. I found this recipe and used it last year, since then I have passed it out a handful of times. It works, but it works slowly, so be patient. Within 24-48 hours you should be rid of your fruit flies. It seems only fitting that on a military post Independence Day should last the whole weekend. This photo is from our party on Sunday. We had a great time, with a live band (behind us in the photo) they set up right outside our fence as there was not enough room inside the in fence. We had lots of friends and tons of good food. Our house is in the perfect spot for this sort of thing, as the park is right outside our fence. The kids played for hours in the heat and humidity & were dripping with sweat, but only came in to get a drink. I think the adults had a good time as well, feasting, drinking, and listening to the music. The only thing missing were the fireworks. We looked for them, but it is next to impossible to buy them here in Korea. So, all in all, our first US holiday overseas was great! Sure we missed our traditional trip to Kansas for the 4th, but you do what you can and make the best of the situation you are in, and we did. Happy Birthday America! Boy 2 LOVES watermelon! I went to the fish market yesterday...WOW. Congratulations to my hubby who just made the list to be promoted to Lieutenant Colonal! You rock baby!! Even though we live in Korea we will be celebrating America's birthday. There are tons of festivities on post. There will be a carnival, a fun run, food, the Army band will be playing, there will be fireworks & Sherrie Austin, a country singer (I have no idea who she is, but is cool she will be here) is going to be giving a free concert. Then on the 6th, we will be having a BBQ at our house. I love parties, I love organizing, preparing menus and decorating for parties. With that being said, I went to the flower market to pick up a few red, white and blue flower. As you can see from the picture above, I went a little overboard. But who could resist? All the flowers pictured above only cost $25!! All are red, white and blue except for the Lilies, which I always have in my house because they are my favorite (and because they are SO inexpensive here). |
AuthorProud Army wife and mother to 4 wonderful children. I love to cook, travel, work out and scrapbook life’s adventures when I find the time. We just got orders & are heading back to the states in March 2010. I'm bummed that our time has been cut short, but proud of Hubby for the reason why. Archives
